The Most Exciting Slots for 2022
As the holiday season reached its busiest stretch, attention was already turning to the iGaming releases expected in 2022.
One certainty for the year ahead, was a steady stream of new video slots. It reported more than 100 software development teams producing an average of 20 new titles each week.
Would those launches overtake the games already leading the popularity rankings? Only the months of 2022 could settle that question. The article anticipated some standout newcomers, while suggesting many of the year’s most compelling choices might already be available.
These are several titles the original article expected to remain among the most played at online casinos:
Big Bad Wolf Megaways (Quickspin)
Released in 2021, Big Bad Wolf Megaways followed Quickspin’s best-known slot, adapting it to the Megaways format. A spin could produce up to 117,649 ways to win. It rated the sequel above the original and called it Quickspin’s strongest title to that point. Its top payout of 30,540x, changing Megaways layout, free spins, progressive multipliers and tumbling reels were among the features highlighted.
Gems Infinity Reels (ReelPlay/Yggdrasil)
The original review regarded the Infinity Reels feature as a notable development in slot design after Megaways. When a winning combination lands, another reel appears on the right and the win multiplier rises; the process carries on until a spin produces no further win. In theory, reel growth has no fixed limit. Gems Infinity Reels stood out to the reviewer for its visuals and extra bonus features, including a free spins round.
Wolf Gold (Pragmatic Play)
Pragmatic Play had a productive year, the article noted, culminating in its Slot Provider of the Year win at the 2021 SBC Awards on the 14th of December. It said the company released over 50 titles during 2021, yet many players still favoured Wolf Gold, then 4 years old. The 25-payline game features 3 jackpots (Mini, Major, and Mega), free spins, re-spins and a top payout of 125,000 coins.
Starburst (NetEnt)
With its vivid look and lasting presence among online casinos’ most-played slots, Starburst was expected by the original review to remain popular through 2022. The article linked its frequent use in casino free spins promotions to its broad appeal. Gameplay is simple and low variance, with 10 paylines; wins can form in both directions, and sticky expanding wilds trigger the signature re-spin feature.
Book of Dead (Play’n GO)
As with Starburst, Book of Dead was still drawing players despite newer competition. Some slot fans considered it the best of all time, though the original article acknowledged that preferences differ. It pointed to the game’s 10 paylines, high variance and familiar Riche Wilde character as reasons for its appeal. The 5,000x payout and free spins round with expanding symbols were also cited as likely attractions.
Bring the New Year in Style
The article looked ahead to 2022 while also celebrating the games already on offer. It expected the slots above, alongside many other titles, to remain chart favourites over the coming year.
